STEVE HODGES
Steve Hodges (Teacher/Coach SHS 2007 - 2018). Winner, Leader, Transformative.
“Teaching life through baseball.” Coach Hodges took the helm as the head coach of the
Sisters Outlaws baseball program in 2007 during a tumultuous time. Steve and his staff
immediately transformed the program into one of extraordinary successes over the next 11
years. Hired as a business teacher and head coach, Steve, along with his family and staff,
dedicated themselves to Sisters High School both on and off the field. Under Steve’s
direction, the program was marked by precision, focus, and motivation. He created a culture
of doing the right thing, instilling confidence, and having fun (including annual spring break
trips to Arizona), which immediately bred success. His coaching record was outstanding,
boasting 219 wins and 79 losses, a 74% winning percentage. The team consistently excelled
in the playoffs, reaching the semi-finals twice and the quarterfinals seven times, with a state
championship runner-up finish in 2013. During six of his 11 years, the baseball team was
ranked in the state top ten heading into the playoffs. In addition to athletic success, many of
the players continued their careers in college and professionally. Beyond baseball, Steve
taught business/finance, and ran the Outlaw Store, giving students hands-on business
experience. He was also a respected football and basketball referee. Coach Hodge’s legacy
lives on, with a culture of excellence and integrity in the Sisters Outlaws baseball program -
doing things the “Outlaw Way.”
